Hi, I'm Jim Nelson. I've been the rector of Good Shepherd since June of 2000. I'm pleased to say it has been the most rewarding time of my priesthood. I'm originally from Oklahoma (I got to Texas as soon as I could) and my previous parish was Church of the Resurrection in Oklahoma City.
I entered into seminary rather late in life so I've had a book full of work and life experiences prior to ordination. Among my life experiences my most enduring blessing has been my relationship with my wife, Linda, and marriage of almost 36 years. I have been truly blessed by that gift and the gift of our, now adult, daughter Tricia and her family.
I love being a priest and rector (especially here at Good Shepherd). The people of Good Shepherd truly are seeking to follow God's vision for us as a sanctuary to equip people to deal with the issues of life in an atmosphere of love, security, and support. We find sanctuary in the person of Jesus Christ. Simply stated, sanctuary at Good Shepherd is like the base in a game of tag. When you're here, you're safe but it's a place of equipping and transforming safety in order to re-enter life.
If you're just shopping our website great but, let me encourage you to actually come and worship with this great group of people. God bless you regardless.
